Applications open for RFU Focus Colleges

Rugby-playing colleges are being invited to apply to become an RFU Focus College.

Focus Colleges across England have fostered robust partnerships with the RFU that support the development of rugby union for male and female participants. Following the success of the first year of the programme, the RFU are seeking to increase the number of Focus Colleges from 21 to 35 for the start of the 2018-19 season.

The programme seeks to increase the pool of players in the college sector who can be transitioned into rugby clubs, so the emphasis for delivery should be on participation.

Therefore, Focus Colleges could be established rugby playing colleges or those new to the game – providing they have potential for growth.

The RFU will provide local and central support to Focus Colleges to assist them to deliver against pre-determined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) aligned to the growth of playing opportunities, transition to club rugby and sustainability.

In addition, Focus Colleges will receive funding over three years of up to £9,000 depending on the successful achievement against the KPIs. Progress against KPIs will be monitored regularly throughout the season and funding awarded in instalments. At the end of each season an annual review will be conducted to assess overall achievement and determine future RFU support and investment.

Any college interested in becoming a Focus College should complete and return the expression of interest form (below) before Friday 20 April 2018.

Please note that colleges which are successful will be invited to attend a welcome event at Twickenham Stadium on Sunday 3 June 2018 during the HSBC London 7s.
