AoC Sport forms new HE regional tournament partnership in South East

Students in the South East will be competing at Southampton Solent University’s new facilities as part of the regional tournament schedule this year.

Southampton Solent University has partnered with AoC Sport to host five events across three sports at its campus this year.

Men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball will take place at the newly-built Solent Sports Complex with men’s rugby being played at Test Park Sports Ground.

Test Park hosts the majority of Team Solent football, rugby, and American football training sessions and fixtures.

The Solent Sports Complex was opened in May 2019 and includes two sports halls, two fitness studios, a spin studio, general purpose, strength and conditioning and teaching gyms as well as a sports and exercise therapy clinical space.

Alix Tucker, AoC Sport Regional Development Officer for the South East, said: “We are delighted to be working with Solent University as our Higher Education partner in the South East region.

“The brand-new facilities at Solent Sports Complex are excellent and will provide an incredible experience for students and staff attending the regional tournaments.

“Not only will students get to play sport in top class facilities, they’ll also experience the buzz of a university campus and find out what sport is like at university.”

Last year more than 1,000 students competed in regional tournaments from across the South East in an attempt to qualify for the AoC Sport National Championships.

The dates for the regional tournaments at Southampton Solent University are:

  • Men’s basketball and rugby – 16 October 2019
  • Women’s basketball – 6 November 2019
  • Men’s and women’s volleyball – 4 December 2019
