AoC Sport Leadership Academy relaunched for 2019/20

We are pleased to announce that we are relaunching the AoC Sport Leadership Academy for 2019/20.

Initially launched in August 2018, the aims of the Leadership Academy are to get more students volunteering in sport and to diversify the volunteer workforce.

In order to have a greater impact for this project next year, we are now encouraging colleges to sign up rather than individual students.

Many colleges across the country already have well established volunteer programmes and we want the Leadership Academy to compliment and add value to these, as well as encourage other colleges to establish a leadership and volunteering programme.

Last year we recruited 168 This Girl Can Ambassadors, delivered 20 training events and engaged over 270  students from more than 70 colleges at various AoC Sport events.

While we’re pleased with the first year of the academy, we want to make it even better for next year.

Why should colleges sign up?

By registering to be part of the Leadership Academy colleges will have access to a range of development and volunteering opportunities, including our National Championships and discounted officiating and activator courses for their students.

We will also be introducing a new recognition scheme where colleges can nominate students to be AoC Sport volunteer of the month. Winners will receive a prize and will be recognised on our website and social media.

“Being part of the Leadership Academy means the students not only have access to a variety of volunteering opportunities, but they also receive help and guidance from people other than their college teachers.

“The students have access to online training videos and for example, the This Girl Can Ambassador training days.

“As a college it helps us structure the support and opportunities to ensure the students have the best experience.”

Colleges who are FA College Grassroots Hubs, and those who host an FA Women’s Football Apprentice, are strongly encouraged to sign up to the Leadership Academy to compliment their existing work in recruiting, supporting  and developing the workforce including student Activators, coaches, and referees.

With the new Ofsted Education Inspection framework emphasising opportunities for student’s personal development, it is the ideal time for colleges to think about developing their volunteer and leadership programme.
