AoC Sport national netballers get 2019 off to winning start

The AoC Sport national netball squad have got the year off to a winning start with a double victory against Durham University.

Sporting their new AoC Sport branded kit, the squad, made up of 21 players, met and worked at the new Beacon of Light Sports Centre in Sunderland.

The Saturday session consisted of team building, netball drills/skills, squad match play and team selections.

After a good night’s sleep, the players met back at the Beacon for two matches against Durham University’s  first and second teams.

AoC Sport’s first team took to the court and played more than an hour so all 11 players could play and different combinations could be looked at. After an excellent performance, the squad won 77-54.

The second team then took to the court to play their second team opponents. Again, more than an hour was played to allow for changes and combinations.

And this time, the second team were victorious by an even bigger margin of 71-51. Within both games, there was a huge number of turnovers and the shooting stats were very high.

Coach Julie Kimber said: “All the players worked very hard throughout the weekend and really gelled as a squad and as teams. It was a great start to the season and we cannot wait for the next weekend in Northern Ireland.”
