Countdown to the WorldSkills UK Fitness Trainer Finals!

With only one week to go until the AoC Sport team is on site at the NEC in Birmingham for the WorldSkills UK Fitness Trainer Competition, our Fitness Trainer Competition Manager reflects on the past five years of incredible competition and those who have made the competition possible.

In 2014 after three years of the Fitness Trainer Competition taking place in colleges across the Midlands, AoC Sport successfully applied to WorldSkills UK to become part of their suite of, what is now over 70 competitions, all showing the skills excellence of learners across the country and the world.

Since then the competition has hosted almost 40 regional events and taken nearly 60 students through to the finals at the NEC in Birmingham after being whittled down from the 100+ organisations who are involved each and every year.

Of course, the competition wouldn’t be possible each year without the support of our incredible partners and sponsors. Active IQ have been involved in the competition since the very beginning, and their continued support has been invaluable across the years, having a real impact on the national finalists and supporting many of them through several years of their career.

We have also been lucky to work with Matrix Fitness as our Total Solutions Partner, and they’ve not only provided the competitors with the opportunity to work with state of the art equipment but also with additional training, professional development opportunities and profile-raising online content. More recently, British Rowing have been embedding their Go Row Indoor programme into the competition, providing invaluable training and resources to entrants on utilising the indoor rower as part of their regular sessions.

We’ve also been thrilled to see so much commitment from our incredible Expert Judges team, many of whom apply to be a judge each and every year, taking time out of their busy days either in college lecturing, working with private training providers or fitness facilities. They are the unsung heroes of the competition and in 2019 brought hundreds of cumulative years of experience in the fitness industry to the judging of our regional and national competitors.

We’ve loved seeing the hundreds of entrants through the competition over the years. We want to thank both them and their tutors/lecturers who have supported and coached them through not only their courses and the competition, but who stay in touch to help their ex-students as they build their careers in the fitness industry.

This time next week our team from AoC Sport will be on-site at the NEC, along with the eight national finalists and six expert judges. Make sure you’re following WorldSkills UK and AoC Sport across our social media platforms for the latest news on the competition.
