ECFA National Football Activators attend training event at Wembley Stadium

ECFA held its second National Activator Training event at Wembley Stadium this week, with more than 180 delegates in attendance, consisting of ECFA Football Activators and college staff members.

The day began with AoC Sport’s National Football Development Officer, Matt Dandy, delivering a national update to the attendees, including the amazing delivery that they themselves had already achieved.

We then heard from Heather Smith from Women In Sport, who presented a marketing workshop, highlighting how effective use can be a key factor in engaging young women in football.

Rimla Ahktar MBE then delivered a session around to how to engage hard to reach groups, and how activators can help support in engaging people form these backgrounds.

The afternoon session was opened by AoC Sport Managing Director Marcus Kingwell, who touched on the great work that colleges have achieved to date, highlighting some of the individual colleges who have gone above and beyond in delivering football to their students, and developing a workforce to help support with that delivery.

Chair of our National Student Leadership Committee, and Bridgwater and Taunton College Football Activator Oli Moore, then addresses the room, telling delegates about his volunteering journey and how he has inspired others along the way.

After Oli’s truly inspiring keynote the delegates had the opportunity to ask questions to Oli and Marcus, as well as Donna McIvor (FA National Strategic Lead for Women in Education) and Lauren O’Sullivan (AoC Sport National Football Development Manager), as part of a panel session.

The penultimate session of the day was delivered by FA National Schools Manager (12-16), Karl Lines. Karl’s session was centred on activators identifying their own personal strengths and the areas in which they can develop. Karl also briefly touched on current volunteering models and areas for change.

The day ended with a keynote from Lauren O’Sullivan, who expanded on some of the key themes from the day.

We would like to thank Wembley Stadium and all of the staff who helped organise the event, alongside all of our ECFA Football Activators, college staff, and speakers who all contributed to making the day a great success.
