England Colleges RFU Conference on Thursday 13 June 2019 at Birmingham City University

Deadline is Tuesday 4 June.

Conference Speakers

82-time capped England rugby player Daniele Waterman

Test debut at the age of 18, England’s youngest ever player at the time, went on to feature in four Women’s Rugby World Cups.

She was a try-scorer in the 2014 World Cup win and also played sevens for Team GB at the 2016 Olympic games. Danielle or Nolli as she’s known will share her story and insights on engaging women and girls in sport.

International referees Luke Pearce and Ian Tempest

After college and before university, Luke Pearce felt like doing something different – so he became a referee! He’s now a top flight professional referee on his way to ref at the World Cup later this year.

Ian Tempest is a Premiership regular, he played rugby as a youth in the Wirral for New Brighton RFC.

Professor Moira Lafferty, University of Chester. Dr. Caroline Wakefield, Liverpool Hope University

The CHANGES-Intervention (Challenging Hazing and Negative Group Events in Sport) has been designed and developed over the last 10 years from research and applied work in the area.

Developed to promote positive team building and welcome events and challenge attitudes and behaviours.

In this interactive workshop we will introduce the CHANGES concept and engage you in several activities that show how the CHANGES intervention is designed to empower people to develop a culture change.

Stephen Watkins Anti-Doping and Illicit Drugs Programme Manager, RFU

Stephen will share his understanding of the current landscape, the pitfalls for students and what help is available for colleges to access.

We will also hear from a college who grew a flourishing rugby programme from scratch, about the RFU Young Match Officials programme and from RFU/ECRFU colleagues on available support.

This year’s event caters for both college staff and students. While the staff attend the conference inside, students will spend time on the pitch taking part in touch rugby, a tutorial in basic refereeing and developing their rugby leadership skills.

 Book your free place NOW!

We are offering two free staff places and two free student places.

The conference is 10-15.30 at Birmingham City University – Moor Lane Campus, The Pavilion, B6 7AA.
