Expressions of interest now open to host college sport national championships

AoC Sport is seeking a partnership with a university, local authority, County Sport Partnership or consortium to host and support the delivery of the AoC Sport National Championships from 2020-2022.

AoC Sport is now inviting expressions of interest from organisations wishing to host and support the delivery of the AoC Sport National Championships, which is held every April across 13 different sports.

The AoC Sport National Championships is one of the largest annual sporting events in the UK, involving about 1,750 college students, 300 college staff and 100 support staff and volunteers. The event has a long history, and 2020 will be the 42nd year of the Championships.

Students qualify for the National Championships through regional tournaments in 13 sports, which take place in the autumn term. As well as competing in their chosen sport, students compete for points for their region. The region whose teams and individuals accumulate the most points wins the prestigious Wilkinson Sword trophy.

The shape and format of the event has remained broadly the same over the years, and although it has been successful and highly regarded by students and staff, we would now like to create a partnership with a host organisation or consortium to develop and improve the event, potentially with new or different sports, improved marketing and communications, and an even better athlete and spectator experience.
