The weekend kicked off with silver for Hartpury College equine coach Carl Hester MBE, who helped TeamGB to silver in the team dressage event. Also part of the team was Charlotte Dujardin’s horse Valegro, who trains at Hartpury.

The dressage team’s silver was then followed by a gold for the men’s team pursuit, which included former Nelson and Colne College student Steven Burke and former Kirklees College student Ed Clancy.

Swimmer Jazz Carlin, who studied A Levels at Gower College Swansea, then added her second silver of the Rio Games in the 800m freetsyle.

Also in the pool gold medallist Adam Peaty – formerly of Derby College – earned his second Olympic medal, as he helped TeamGB to silver in the 4x100m medley.

Former Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College student, Zoe Lee, made history as part of the women’s eight rowing crew who claimed silver on Saturday – TeamGB’s first ever medal in the event.
