Great Britain Colleges men’s hockey team edge thrilling Series against Scotland U18s
Last weekend saw the AoC Sport Great Britain Colleges men’s hockey team travel to Glasgow to compete against Scotland U18s, during their last minute preparations before the Junior European Hockey Championships.
All three games were played at the 2014 Commonwealth Games Stadium, while the squad stayed in the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
The first game took place on Friday evening, the same day all the squad had been travelling (several flying up, some train, some by car). The journey seemed to have taken its toll as Scotland managed to eventually run out 6-4 winners despite a close game throughout.
Saturday morning’s game saw GB Colleges know that a defeat meant the Series was lost. A much improved and at times dominant performance saw GB Colleges run out 4-3 winners.
Saturday afternoon’s fixture would see a win for either team handing them the Series. GB Colleges had a terrible start and found themselves 3-0 down after the first quarter. After rallying around, GB Colleges got back to 1-3 as the final quarter started. The game finished 3-3 and there were even opportunities for GB to have won it.
But instead, tt went to penalty shuffles and GB Colleges ran out 4-3 winners and took the Series in a thrilling end to three fantastic games.
