Ofsted publish draft inspection framework

Ofsted has today published a draft inspection framework for 2019, which sets out how it proposes to inspect Further Education providers.

The new guidelines will see a shift in focus from ‘outcomes’ to quality of education with less emphasis on performance data.

The single personal development judgement offers colleges the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to developing the health of their students by providing a cross college enrichment offer.

“Providers can take effective action to extend learners’ experiences, but the impact may not be seen for many years. Inspectors will not make judgements about the impact of the personal development of learners. Their judgements about learners’ personal development are concerned with the opportunities that learners get to help them develop their character, confidence and resilience. These include opportunities and support to keep themselves healthy, both physically and mentally.”

Ofsted has launched a consultation on the proposed education inspection framework, for use from September 2019. Colleges can have their say until 5 April 2019.

AoC Sport will be seeking the views of our members before submitting a full response. Members will have an opportunity to discuss the framework at the forthcoming regional network meetings, which can be found here.
