Record number of This Girl Can Ambassadors recruited for 2019/20
We are delighted to announce that we have recruited a record 183 This Girl Can Ambassadors from 61 colleges for 2019/20.
The female students will volunteer their time to promote and inspire other females within their colleges to participate in sport and physical activity, whilst raising awareness of the Sport England This Girl Can campaign.
Hugh Baird College Level 3 Sport student Isabelle Livesley, said: “I am delighted to have been chosen as the college’s This Girl Can Ambassador. I have always loved being active and ultimately aim to one day become a personal training instructor in the Royal Air Force.
“I feel it’s crucial that females feel empowered and don’t feel self-conscious or anxious about undertaking sport or any physical activities.”
The new This Girl Can Ambassadors attended a full day’s regional training in order to undertake the role. The training allowed the attendees to increase their knowledge and understanding of the This Girl Can campaign, establish methods to engage inactive students in their college and create a successful action plan for the year which will hopefully increase participation of females back at their college.
Isabelle added: “Throughout the training for the role, we learnt about the physical part of the role, but there was also a lot of emphasis on the mental health benefits being active can provide.”
Ambassadors on their second year of the programme came along to support the training and did Instagram takeovers at the regional events to give a flavour of the day.
This year the TGC Ambassadors will be given £100 per college to help implement their plans and organise events.
The TGC Ambassadors will have access to a social networking platform which will link them to a national network of Ambassadors and provide them with direct support and guidance from their regional AoC Sport Development Officer.
