Reflections from the AoC Sport and ECFA National Conference

The annual AoC Sport and ECFA National Conference took place earlier this month.

The event, sponsored by Pearson, included speakers and breakout sessions from a wide range of topics in sport and football development.

For those who could not make it, here is a roundup of what took place across the day.

Exploration of the new Education Inspection Framework for sport and physical activity

Why sports and esports should be working closer together:

ECFA Competition Review:

Switch The Play tested early findings and themes from the recent sector consultation on FE Football with delegates as part of the ECFA Competition Review.

The workshop will help shape the key recommendations going to ECFA Committee on 17 June 2019.

Developing futsal across FE:

John Folwell from the Football Association shared The FA’s vision and plans for futsal development and the key role colleges play. Delegates shared ideas on how to develop futsal within their institutions.

ECFA and Catapult Sports/PlayerTek:

AoC Sport congratulated and briefed ECFA Cat 1 National League Teams ahead of the new season and were joined by Conor and Kieran from Catapult Sports. Together we shared information on our exciting new partnership and delegates explored the benefits of PlayerTek GPS technology within education and sport performance settings.

Athlete Transition

Vicky Macqueen delivered a masterclass on Transition 101, highlighting the imperative nature of colleges and coaches to support their students to build the key skills required to fulfil their potential through and beyond sport.

The workshop raised awareness of the change process athletes go through when transitioning out of sport, and how colleges are well placed to support their students through this, focusing on maximising potential and controlling the controllables.

Thank you to all the delegates, speakers and exhibitors who attended this year’s event. We hope to see you again in June 2020!
