Tyne Metropolitan College agrees England Handball partnership

Tyne Metropolitan College has agreed a new partnership with England Handball.

The aim of the project, which is initially for one year with the potential to extend to two years, is to:

  • Grow handball in the North East, with a big focus on the wider Tyne and Wear area
  • Grow youth handball across schools, colleges and universities
  • Develop the handball workforce across the North East region
  • Support the development of community handball in partnership with Newcastle Vikings Handball Club

Funding is from European Handball Federation as part of England Handball’s European Handball Federation smart plan project to grow handball in the North East and South West of England.

Tyne Metropolitan College Sport Development Manager Craig Robson said: “It is a really exciting opportunity to work with England Handball to support the development of the sport in the North East.

“It is a great experience as a college to work at a national level to create the next generation of players from primary, secondary and further education that could eventually lead to identifying talented players in the region.

“It is also a unique chance to support the development of a high-quality workforce to promote a positive environment for our learners and those in the North East keen to get involved in handball.

“We’re looking forward to this year, hitting our targets and developing this partnership further.”

England Handball National Partnerships Manager Stacey Andrews said: “I am delighted to announce this new partnership with Tyne Metropolitan College in Newcastle which will enable us to provide some local support to the growing handball community in the North East.

“It is exciting to be working with such a forward-thinking college which has sport at its core. The college already has fantastic links with its local community through its sport provision, so it is great to be able to add handball to their menu of opportunities and provide more opportunities for people in the North East to discover and engage in handball regularly.”
