AoC Sport to run first ever virtual boccia competition for colleges
AoC Sport, with the support of Boccia England, will be delivering a virtual boccia competition for the first time.
Due to the ongoing pandemic all face-to-face boccia competition delivery is postponed until further notice. However, with 152 students engaged in our competitions during 2019/20, we believe it is important to offer provision for students at member colleges to still participate in boccia.
The virtual competition will be made up of six weekly challenges where colleges will submit their scores along with any photos and videos to AoC Sport. The average score from all participants will then be added to a leaderboard, which will be updated every week on the AoC Sport website.
Colleges can enter as many students as they wish and no boccia equipment is needed to participate in the challenges.
Colleges can register here for the challenge from 12-30 April with the first challenge starting on Monday 10 May.
Timeline for competition:
Monday 12 April – Registration opens to colleges
Friday 30 April – Registration closes to colleges
Monday 10 May – First week of competition
Monday 17 May – Second week of competition
Monday 24 May – Third week of competition
Monday 7 June – Fourth week of competition
Monday 14 June – Fifth week of competition
Monday 21 June – Sixth week of competition
Colleges will receive boccia challenge instruction sheets and videos explaining the weekly challenge. Each challenge will be released on the Monday of the challenge week and scores will need to be submitted to AoC Sport by close of play on the Friday.
The college who wins the overall six-week challenge will receive £150 credit to spend at the Boccia England shop. Two runners up will also receive £50 credit for the Boccia England shop. Any college who completes all six college weeks will also be entered into a prize draw to win one of two Boccia England Skills Award packages.
Boccia is a Paralympic sport with no Olympic equivalent and is similar to bowls. Find out more about the sport here.
