AoC Sport works with colleges and partners to support curriculum development in sport. We provide regional network opportunities for Heads of Sport to receive national updates, share best practice and discuss current issues. Details of the curriculum networks can be found on the regional pages of the website.

We work with Awarding Organisations and employers to provide advice and guidance on study programmes design. Our annual Sport in the Curriculum Conference provides further opportunity for college staff to discover resources, best practice and partners to further enhance their offer.

Our partnership with the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) enables us to advise our members on the skill requirements of the sport and fitness industry enabling them to develop appropriate study programmes. We also use this partnership to advocate the use of colleges as apprenticeship training providers for many of the large employers in CIMSPA’s membership.

We closely monitor Ofsted reports to identify themes in inspection. We will also share examples from reports in which sport and physical activity has been identified as having a positive influence on the inspection outcome. Towards Outstanding is a set of national standards and a self-assessment tool to share good practice, demonstrate the value of physical activity and sport to all curriculum areas, and develop and sustain excellent practice in colleges. The 2016 edition has been updated to reflect the Ofsted Common Inspection Framework.
