Why sport matters

There is increasing evidence that sport and physical activity can help colleges to achieve improved outcomes for themselves and their students.


Participating, volunteering, coaching and organising sport can improve a student’s employability, health, confidence, self-esteem and attainment. In turn, sport supports many wider college objectives, including Ofsted outcomes, recruitment and retention.


A growing evidence base exists that demonstrates the impact of sport and physical activity on college and student outcomes. Our presents some of this evidence and looks at how sport can help colleges achieve key objectives.


AoC Sport research has also found that there is a positive link between engagement in sport, employability and future earnings.
