AoC Sport Leadership Academy
AoC Sport Leadership Academy
The Leadership Academy is an AoC Sport project to support colleges to enhance and develop volunteering programmes for their students.
The aims of the academy are to get more college students volunteering in sport and to diversify the volunteer workforce.
By signing up to the Leadership Academy colleges will get access to a range of opportunities for their students, including the This Girl Can Ambassador programme, our new Inclusive Ambassador programme as well as exclusive volunteering opportunities at regional tournaments and the National Championships.
We will also be introducing a new volunteer recognition scheme where colleges can nominate students each month to be recognised as AoC Sport volunteer of the month. Winners will receive a prize and will be recognised on our website and social media.
Why should colleges sign up?
Volunteering has many benefits including meeting new people, developing new skills and improved wellbeing.
Offering a volunteer programme at college can help to provide more activities for students as well as enhance students’ career prospects.
Colleges who are FA College Grassroots Hubs, and those who host an FA Women’s Football Apprentice, are strongly encouraged to sign up to the Leadership Academy to compliment their existing work in recruiting, supporting and developing the workforce including student Activators, coaches, and referees.
With greater emphasis on personal development in the Ofsted education inspection framework, now is a great time to develop or grow a college volunteering programme.
Volunteers will enhance their own personal development and can support the college to provide more opportunities for students and local community to be active.
Leadership Academy colleges will get support in evidencing the impact of their volunteering programme to use as evidence for Ofsted inspections.
When responding to our recent Regional Tournament and National Championships consultation, the vast majority of colleges were in support of AoC Sport upskilling and providing opportunities for students to officiate at regional tournaments and National Championships.
We will therefore be providing discounted officiating courses for Leadership Academy colleges to develop and upskill their students.
Expectations of colleges
Individual service level agreements will be made with each college identifying their target number of volunteers. Each will be asked to recruit a minimum of two new volunteers.
To access the many benefits of the Leadership Academy colleges will need to get students to complete two monitoring forms (at the beginning and end of year) as well as attend one regional development day with other colleges to network, learn and share best practice around volunteering.
Colleges with an established programme will also be asked to make a commitment towards diversifying their volunteers.
